CHERRY BLOSSOMS....
 
The cherry blossom (sakura) is Japan's unofficial national flower. It has been celebrated for many centuries and takes a very prominent position in Japanese culture. There are many dozens of different cherry tree varieties in Japan, most of which bloom for just a couple of days in spring. The Japanese celebrate that time of the year with hanami (cherry blossom viewing) parties under the blooming trees.
When i think of Japan, the 2nd thing that comes to my mind (my dad's the first of course heheh) is the cherry blossoms... everytime my dad comes home from his sea voyage, he would always bring these pretty calendars that has pictures of cherry blossoms, maples (the one in my header) and others...i love looking at it cuz its soo beautiful..i kept wishing that someday i may be able to see one. I also recall when i was younger, my dad would always bring home these flower and tomato seeds...we will plant it in the backyard and i was so excited to see them grow.. the seed packets have pictures and the flowers have nice pink and red colors and the tomate looked big and very red, not the usual tomato i can see in the fridge...i never saw those kinds here in the phils...the tomato started growing and every morning, the first thing i would do is see them..it became a routine until...it stopped growing...my dad just shrugged.. said it's probably because of the humid climate. The flowers didnt grow at all...When i got older, i realized my dad knew all along that its impossible to grow them..maybe he just wanted to see me happy or he wanted something both of us could do... planting...it makes me smile just thinking of that....

Gruesomely entertaining! This film by Kinji Fukasuku will definitely keep you at the edge of your seat! Could I pass for a movie critic? heheheh...i first caught sight of this film in a japanese channel, usually I dont have enough patiece to watch a foreign (except american of course) film without subtitles, but this one had me going. Besides,where can you see a bunch of high school kids killing each other? yup, i may have twisted pleasure sometimes but this flick had my pulse racing and that's more important...guess i need some action in my very slow and dragging life...hahaha...it may appear to some people that this is just a sick or senseless movie but if you'll just think, you will learn values here that is relevant in your daily life...Like how far would you go for survival? life is an endless obstacle so how would you deal with it? Some kids here chose to end their lives instead of killing their classmates..some were determined to survive and they will do anything to kill everyone and remain the last one standing. And some did their best to oppose all the hindrances, like the kids who hacked the control panel so the they wouldnt be tracked..There were some things abt this film that is unclear to me...like how could japan's government pass such gory act without triggering controversy?and where the hell did those kids find the computers? I mean, it was a remote island right with mountains....*scratches head* This movie have been banned in many places, also in US mainly because of the obvious reason: violence...
I also watched Battle royale the requiem but it didnt live up with the first one so il just stick with this...=)

Another lighthearted and wacky Korean film about two childhood friends who were forced to get married to grant Boeun's (moon) sick grandfather. It was just a scam to fulfill his pact with his late war friend and comrade who is the grandfather of sang-min (kim). Because of the persistence of their family, they went through the marriage and lived in an apartment like a real couple does. Boeun is just a 16-year old highschooler and Sang-min is a college graduate, together they continued to live their lives normally and did their best to keep everything a secret. From then on, Sangmin got rid of his playboy image and Boeun, just experiencing the peak of her teen life, began to date a cute baseball guy from school. They had a lot of hilarious and sad times in coping with their everyday life as an unusual couple while having to hide their real status. Eventually, they realized that it wasnt such a burden after all as they fell in love as the story progresses...even during the time that their secret was revealed...
This is definitely one of those very nice lighthearted films i would want to watch from time to time! The plot was so simple yet it knows how to tug your heart..though the story involves a married minor, the director managed to deliver it in a wholesome but very enjoyable manner.
Kim Rae-won is so adorable here, with his funny expressions and hilarious antics, you'd definitley love his character! I remembered seeing him opposite Jang nara in My love Patzzi but i guess i didnt notice him much there...We can remember Moon Geun-young as the young Song Hye-kyo in the Autumn story and is a very popular actress in Korea. Despite her young age, she's in the 24th spot of the most influential Korean celebs. Her exuberant charm and winning cute smile made her a well-loved Korean sweetheart... It's very cool to see this film cuz it will make you laugh, smile, fall in love and realize that unexpected things could happen in very depressing circumstances...like being forced to get married! Kim Rae-won and Moon Geun-young's onscreen chemistry makes the movie really a delightful thing to watch!

MY TUTOR FRIEND

Okay...so maybe Kwon sang-woo is enough reason for anyone to see this film. And why not? He's really popular and have proven that he's an all-around actor and girls swoon over him. Well, i cant say if that same reason influenced most of the positive feedbacks ive read about this film. Nevertheless, Ive anticipated this movie and besides, it seemed interesting enough. Then I was able to watch it finally...well, it wasnt really what I expected but it wasnt a disappointment either. I'll say it was around mediocre..The first half was going well, a bit dragging on some parts but still tolerable. I kept wondering how Sang-woo and Ha-neul's tutor-friend relationship would blossom into something more. There was a part where Ha-neul helped Sang-woo in his predicament despite all the hard times he gave her during their tutorial sessions. afterwards, sang-woo softened and treated her a lot better. Then sang-woo admitted to her that he likes her in a very timely situation....they were in the air skydiving! Ha-neul told him she cant understand and she seemed to have trouble with her skydiving suit or whatever you call that and she fell down unconscious...i was like, great... In the end, I felt like Ha-neul really didnt feel anything for Sang-woo..or maybe not yet probably because she was still heartbroken when her ex-boyfriend entered the religious life. Besides the "undefined" chemistry of the two leads, the movie in all its simplicity, is still entertaining to watch. You'll surely be hooked by Kwon sang-woo's charm! Oh, and what do i have to say about Kim Ha-neul? I think she was awesome when she was dancing for their school festival. She was really cute there....=)
